OMG what a day we had! Two days on the boat ride between islands off Flores turned rapidly to become one of the biggest highlights food trucks san francisco of the whole trip! Do not even where to start - I have so much to tell!
The rain hammered and sea spray whipped when we left the port of Luaban Bajo on Flores island. food trucks san francisco On the boat with us was a Frenchman food trucks san francisco named Xavier, a captain, a cook and a young boy during training. The fog had stolen all the views, and the engine roar and the waves lull me fast asleep. food trucks san francisco After two hours I woke up just before we arrived at the island of Rinca - the first of two islands where to look for Komodo dragons. Komodo dragons are the largest lizards and venomous, they can be over three feet long, and you get their saliva in you have three hours to get to the hospital before you are guaranteed to die. The rain had taken a break when we landed, and we met our guide Asgar. While Arild Xavier noted that we had arrived at the island I thought I would take the opportunity to run to the bathroom. It was easier said than done when Asgar came running food trucks san francisco after me and panting said he had to check if there were dragons in the toilet before I could enter ... Ups.
Our trip around the island was awesome awesome! We saw seven Komodo; everything from a baby up in a tree, to huge adult dragons of 2.5 meters! We found several dragons in the jungle, one lying in the grass atop a mountain, food trucks san francisco and some remain outside the kitchen. To have seen kites outside the kitchen is almost guaranteed (as guaranteed as anything food trucks san francisco can be with wild wildlife), so it seems I was not quite as exciting. The ones we found in their natural surroundings, completely camouflaged and impossible to see if it had not been for Asgar, they think it was so much more fascinating to study! We were way fight lucky to find one on top of the mountain. Asgar did not expect it at all and went and fantasized about the snow in Norway when he suddenly jumped sky high and pulled us out of the path. It is supposedly very rare dragons moving away from the jungle and settles where it is open. Without the dense jungle food trucks san francisco around us, it was also a bit lighter, and we were standing a long time to admire this strange creature.
The ride through the jungle we also seen spiders the size of my palm, and two wild buffalos! All hunting on the island is prohibited, the animals contained therein are reserved Komodo. They eat only once a month, but when they eat in return 40 kg of meat! We also got to see the place where Komodo lays eggs, and learned that every she-dragon lays 30 to 40 eggs, but only one or two survive. They make sure their eggs in the first three months, but when the rains come and the eggs are buried in the ground bothered they do not fit in them anymore. When the eggs for another six months begins to hatch Komodo have forgotten that they have laid eggs and come back to eat the baby dragons!
Back in the boat we were served lunch before we set sail towards Pink Beach. The rain came back when we were eating lunch, and journey across the sea, a soaking wet ride. Fortunately hung it covers rolled up under the roof, so when it started to whip the worst we rolled them down and got a little food trucks san francisco shelter. Wet and cold, we arrived at the pink beach and it was a pleasure to jump into the warm sea! The corals were extremely beautiful and colorful, there were fish in all shapes and colors, and best of all - we were completely alone! I think this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever snorkeled!
Just before noon appeared at least seven dolphins in front of the boat and luckily food trucks san francisco swam the same way as we should, so we got to follow them long! The sky was filled with enormous bats that they call "flying foxes" just before food trucks san francisco darkness fell, and when the day was over, I was completely overwhelmed by the wildlife we had been watching! The night was spent on the deck of the boat, and while we fell asleep to the lapping of the waves and the gentle rocking of the boat, I hoped that tomorrow would be just as rich - but often with slightly better weather.
When we woke up the next morning met the world us with a beautiful food trucks san francisco sunrise and cloudy skies! We ate breakfast while we were driving, and arrived at Komodo Island as the first boat. Had to wait a while before food trucks san francisco the guides arrived at the island, but did finally meet our guide Latif. We trudged our way through the jungle here too, but had not as lucky this time. So no Komodo, but had seen a boar and two deer. When the tour was finished and we had really given up Latif said that now we go to the kitchen to see the dragons! And true enough, outside the kitchen were two huge dragons! food trucks san francisco Three feet long - the largest we had seen!
Back in the boat we had enough one long sail ahead of us, and since there was fog that day we could now enjoy the view. It is so beautiful here! Arrived eventually Manta Point, and got to see more of these huge fish from the boat. Because of strong currents, we did not jump in to them, but quickly came to an area where it was okay to swim. Oh, boy saw huge manta rays are! Three feet wide, three feet long, with a g
